Hanami 花見 - Blossom Viewing
(April 1st 2025)
Tokyo's cherry blossom season began a week ago, when the Meteorological Agency declared that a famous reference tree at Yasukuni Shrine was officially in bloom.
Although cool temperatures and light rain are forecast for the next few days, this year's 花見 hanami (cherry blossom viewing) is in full swing and is likely to break all records.
The 2025 hanami season is expected to have an impact of more than 8 billion euros on the Japanese economy, a whopping 22% more than last year. Investment in hotel accommodation, transport, food, gifts and souvenirs all contribute to this record sum.
Japanese spend an average of 7120 yen (just under 44 euros) on hanami. However, they are now receiving strong support from foreign tourists , who are expected to account for a quarter of all hanami-goers this year.
